Japan, where words are believed to hold sacred power.
A beautiful resonance born of Japan—“Reiki.”

Reiki from Japan, taught with respect for its roots.

Usui Reiki Ryoho is a hands-on healing practice that originated in Japan.

It is more than a technique of placing the hands on the body. Reiki has been passed down as a practice for cultivating the mind, caring for the body, and refining the way we live. Today, it is practiced across countries and cultures around the world.

Based in Kiyoshikojin, Takarazuka, Wellness Reiki School is certified by the nonprofit organization 日本レイキ療法学会 (Japan Reiki Therapy Society) and is dedicated to preserving and sharing Japan’s culture of hands-on care and the spirit of Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Our courses go beyond Reiki techniques. Through meditation, breathing, the Five Reiki Precepts, and daily personal practice, students learn to care for the mind, body, and consciousness as one connected whole.

From complete beginners to those seeking to become professional practitioners or teachers, each student is personally guided by an instructor with 15 years of Reiki experience.

Your Retreat Host & Reiki Therapist
Emily Utsunomiya

My name is Emiri Utsunomiya. I am a Reiki therapist and teacher based in Takarazuka, Hyogo, Japan.

For more than 15 years, I have practiced and taught Reiki through individual sessions, courses, visits, and volunteer activities.

Throughout my work, I have placed great importance on Japanese culture and the traditional foundations of Usui Reiki. I do not view Reiki only as an energy technique, but also as a Japanese practice of hands-on care and self-cultivation, guided by the Five Precepts.

Teaching Reiki and practising Reiki therapy are not necessarily the same. A teacher’s title and lineage may show where and how that person learned Reiki, but they do not by themselves show how much direct experience the teacher has in working with clients.

My background includes both teaching and extensive hands-on practice. In addition to private sessions, I have provided Reiki as a complementary and alternative therapy in clinics, elder-care facilities, and community-support settings in Japan.

At Wellness Reiki School, I train Reiki therapists, sharing both the traditional principles of Usui Reiki and the practical skills needed to work responsibly with others.

I also serve as a board member of the nonprofit Japan Reiki Therapy Society(日本レイキ療法学会), which works to support research, safety, and the responsible practice of Reiki therapy.

In my experience, this combination of respect for Japanese Reiki tradition, hands-on practice in clinical and care settings, professional therapist training, and involvement in a Reiki therapy society is rare, even in Japan.

During this retreat, you will experience Reiki with a teacher whose work is grounded in Japanese tradition, professional education, and direct therapeutic experience with clients.

A Personal Connection to Reiki History

As part of my continuing study of Reiki history and its transmission beyond Japan, I had the valuable opportunity to personally interview Phyllis Lei Furumoto, the granddaughter of Hawayo Takata.
This conversation became an important part of my understanding of how Reiki was introduced abroad and passed down across cultures.

At Wellness Reiki School, your private session will be provided by an experienced Reiki practitioner and teacher with more than 15 years of professional experience. We offer each session with care, responsibility, and respect for the Japanese roots of Reiki.
